Kristian Adamek is a Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Guelph in the Department of Plant Agriculture. He strives to deepen his plant knowledge at every opportunity with a particular passion for Cannabis genetics, breeding, and mutations. His thesis focuses on somatic mutations and comparing different sequencing methods for mutation identification. Firstly, we analyzed deep genome sequencing with distinct plant sections and revealed different mutational loads throughout a single plant. Next, he will be taking exclusive apical and basal clonal cuttings over multiple generations to uncover the impact of location for clonal cuttings over time. Lastly, he will be comparing ISSR vs GBS to display the difference in mutation calling between these two methods. The thesis includes both in vitro and ex vitro sciences with the added benefits of working with industry partners. His mission is to discover and recommend best practices for the preservation of elite cultivars.
