I am Omar Abdelwahab, a 23-years-old master’s student of plant biology (computational biology). I finished my bachelor’s degree in March 2021 in Biomedical sciences (genomics and computational biology department) from Zewail University of Science and Technology in Egypt. Zewail University is ranked 1st in Egypt according to The Times Higher Ranking although it was founded in 2011 by the 1999 Noble Prize Winner in chemistry Ahmed Zewail. I’ve worked on many projects during my university years, but the most important one of which is my graduation project. It was titled «A feature selection-based framework to identify biomarkers for cancer diagnosis: a focus on lung adenocarcinoma». Utilizing multiple feature selection techniques, the proposed framework has identified twelve potential biomarkers that are found to be highly correlated with Lung Caner (LC) in many LC types especially Lung Adenocarcinoma (LUAD). A predictive model has been trained utilizing the identified biomarker expression profiling and performance of 97.73 % was achieved. In addition, upon performing differential gene expression analysis, we could find that all 12 genes were significantly differentially expressed between normal and LUAD tissues and strongly correlated with LUAD according to previous reports. Since February 2021, I am working as a consultant bioinformatician for a company in North Carolina, USA, named « Quant-bio LLC ». Now, I am a master’s student who still wants to learn more and hoping to achieve much much more.
